Dental Implants

Dental Implants in Yonkers are the best option for replacing missing teeth.  They fit, feel, and function like your natural teeth.  Dental implants help to preserve tooth and bone structure in your jaws and are designed to last a lifetime, unlike dentures or bridges. Some dentures and bridges need to be redone in as little as three years. You care for your implants just as you do with for natural teeth, by brushing and flossing daily. Yonkers Avenue Dental will provide each patient an implant consultation, at no charge, when you have your comprehensive dental examination.

Do I need dental implants?

Spaces between your teeth are never a good thing. When you are missing teeth there are psychological as well as physiological factors to be dealt with. Psychologically, the person who is missing teeth has a preconceived notion that the people they come into contact with will see the missing teeth, or possibly hear words being pronounced differently because of the missing  teeth. The person who has the missing tooth will be less assured in their interactions with others and unfortunately, shy away from events that are productive or fun because of the fear of being judged. It can take on an ominous tone in your daily social interactions and prevent you from having the quality of life that you deserve.

Physiologically, the major factor when dealing with missing teeth and not replacing them is that it inevitably leads to MORE lost teeth. That’s right! The remaining teeth need neighbors on either side of them and above or below them. When a tooth is missing, the neighboring teeth drift or begin to tip into those empty spaces. The opposing teeth above or below the space begin to grow outward toward the space, looking for the missed tooth. These teeth are no longer in their proper place and that jeopardizes their longevity. Conceivably, because of just one lost tooth we can compromise three remaining teeth. Like a domino-effect, the tooth loss will continue. Today this is simply not necessary. With the advancements in dentistry, let implants be your first choice in tooth/teeth replacement.

Am I a candidate for implants?

Dr. Rajani will evaluate whether or not you are a good candidate for implants in Yonkers by gathering information about you at your examination visit. Utilizing your complete medical history as well as x-rays  is absolutely the best place to begin to answer that question.

Schedule an appointment for an examination and we are happy to answer all your questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dental implants are the next best thing to keeping your own teeth in your head. We use them to replace missing teeth. First, a titanium rod is drilled into the jawbone to serve as the new “root” of the tooth. Once the rod bonds to the bone (a process called “osseointegration”) we add a crown to the implant. That crown then functions exactly the same way a normal tooth would function, and looks exactly the same way a normal tooth would look.

Implants are superior to dentures and bridges, which move and shift, drawing unwanted attention. You even clean implants exactly the same way you clean your regular teeth.

Average teeth: $1,500

Lasts for: The implant lasts for a lifetime. The crown typically needs to be replaced every 10-15 years.

Returning to work after a dental procedure is dependent on the patient and the type of work you do. There are procedures such as simple fillings that require a little local anesthetic to the tooth, which typically wears off within a few hours. It does not inhibit speaking or cause drowsiness, so yes, returning to work is fine.

Dental procedures where the patient elects to use nitrous oxide (laughing gas) are also easily recovered from. Patients may also have a small amount of local anesthetic while using nitrous oxide. Neither will inhibit speaking nor cause drowsiness.

However, there are procedures where Dr. Rajani will instruct you to remain out of work for the day if he feels your work will interfere with your healing and comfort level. This may include: extraction, root canal, deep gum treatment, dental implant placement, or other dental surgery. You may also discuss these concerns with him, as you know what your job entails and what you are capable of.

Our goal at Yonkers Avenue Dental is for you to receive the best care possible and our concern will always be for our patients and their well-being. Call our office today to schedule an appointment.
